Every night at CHEO, 100 or so children and youth, many with a parent at their side, settle in for a night of sleep that is hopefully filled with sweet dreams; dreams that act as a reprieve from whatever medical challenges have them spending days at CHEO, instead of being at home or school. Their parents all have a common dream… and it is a simple one. They dream that their child will soon be healthy, and for a return to normal family life where their children can learn, play and grow.

2011 Annual Report

When a child spends an extended period of time in hospital due to medical challenges, one of the most welcome sights a parent can see is a smile on the face of their son or daughter. The playrooms here at CHEO provide a space where children can escape the rigours of their treatment, and do what kids do best; play, laugh and smile. While the activities in the playrooms provide a much needed distraction, it is what is going on throughout the rest of the hospital that will help current CHEO patients get back to their normal lives, and make sure fewer children need to come to CHEO in the future.

2010 Annual Report

During a tour of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, one can’t help but notice the effect that technology has on the hospital. In one waiting area a teen communicates with friends via text messaging while waiting for her appointment. In another room, a parent uses CHEO’s wireless network to turn his laptop computer into a bedside office, allowing him to keep up with work while staying by his son’s side.

  • President and Chair message
  • CHEO Foundation
  • A message from CHEO
  • A step back into 2010
  • Statement of management’s responsibility for financial statements

We met Morgan a few months ago in the medical day unit here at CHEO where she was receiving treatment as part of her 2.5 year cancer protocol. Morgan has leukemia and while her situation, and the fact that on this day she wouldn’t smile for the camera might say otherwise, Morgan has reason for optimism.
