Extra Life Gaming Marathon to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals including CHEO
For the last four years, thousands of gamers have come together to play video games for 24 hours for Extra Life – a gaming marathon in support of Children’s Miracle Network. This year’s Extra Life event will be taking place on Saturday, October 20, 2012 and all gamers in the National Capital Region are encouraged to raise money for CHEO, while playing the games they love the most. Everyone from hard-core gamers to Facebook farmers to smart phone gamers are encouraged to take part and when and how they play is up to the individual.
Anyone wishing to participate can sign up online at www.extra-life.org. Once signed up, simply ask friends and family to sponsor you for as little as one dollar per hour. Then play games for 24 hours on October 20!
CHEO is a proud member of the Children’s Miracle Network who raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America. Every dollar raised locally during Extra Life will go directly to CHEO.
Last year, area gamers raised $17,000 for CHEO, and this year’s total is expected to grow. Richard Vondadelszen, who is a mobile and social game developer and one of the key organizers of Extra Life here in Ottawa says; “I was honored to be able to present the cheque for $17,000 during the CHEO Telethon, and with more gamers coming on board each year, I am hoping to present a much bigger cheque this year.”
