08/27/17 (Ottawa) As the final round of play got underway in the CP Women’s Open this morning, Canadian Pacific (CP) presented a cheque for $2 million to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation (CHEO Foundation) representing the money raised through the CP Has Heart program.
The CP Has Heart program has been running since April 1 and has been an incredible success enabling donors to double their impact. All individual donations up to $5,000 and special event proceeds up to $10,000 have been generously matched by CP.
“We are honoured to have brought this tournament to Ottawa as part of the on-going Canada 150 celebrations and thrilled that the tournament will leave a lasting legacy in the community,” said Keith Creel, CP President and Chief Executive Officer. “Knowing that the response from the communities in and around Ottawa will result in improved care for children and youth at CHEO who are dealing with cardiac issues and other medical challenges is inspiring to all of us involved with the CP Women’s Open.”
Ageing labs, inefficient space and outdated equipment at CHEO make the need for an improved catheterization lab and interventional suite urgent to support the little ones at CHEO. Funds raised during the CP Has Heart program will cover the $1.8 million needed to re-design the space, and provide specialized equipment and pediatric-specific training.
“The CP Women’s Open coming to Ottawa is an incredible boost for our region, and all of us at CHEO are incredibly thankful that CP chose CHEO as the beneficiary of the CP Has Heart program,” said CHEO Foundation President and CEO, Kevin Keohane. “The CP Has Heart program will help the doctors, nurses and staff provide the best care possible for patients and families at CHEO. CP, the LPGA, Golf Canada, the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club and the community have come together to support CHEO’s patients and for that we can’t thank them enough.”
The CP Women’s Open wraps up late this afternoon and CP will continue to match all individual donations to CHEO up to $5,000 until midnight tonight. Donations can be made at www.cheoheart.com. For more info please contact:
