Starting on December 1st, the public can help support CHEO by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for CHEO will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until December 31, 2017.
This year funds from the LCBO’s Giving Back in our Community Campaign will support a number of initiatives at CHEO including the purchase of a heart lung bypass machine. This machine temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs during open heart surgeries. On average, CHEO’s cardiac team performs two to three open heart surgeries a week. In addition to helping CHEO purchase lifesaving equipment, the LCBO’s Giving Back in our Community Campaign will continue to support ground-breaking research being done on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder and provide critical training to our emergency staff to treat and support young patients that are struggling with addiction.
“LCBO continues to be a dedicated and loyal supporter of the children and youth at CHEO. The combined dedication between LCBO staff and the customers they serve makes a huge difference in the lives of the families who rely on CHEO,” says Kevin Keohane, President and CEO of the CHEO Foundation. “Their efforts and generosity are greatly appreciated by both the doctors, nurses and staff at CHEO, and the young patients they care for every day. ”
“The incredible generosity of our customers combined with the commitment of our staff is what makes our Giving Back in our Community Campaign so significant. We are proud to have raised close to $600,000 for CHEO last year – supporting not only important funding for alcohol-related clinical study, but the purchasing of lifesaving equipment and technology,” said George Soleas, President & CEO, LCBO. “I am confident that this year’s campaign will be even more successful and that, by working together, we continue our support of children and families who rely on the incredible services CHEO provides.”
All LCBO retail locations, over 660 across the province, take part in the campaign which last year raised a record $5.6 million. Donation boxes will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters and customer service representatives will invite shoppers to add a $2, $5 or $10 donation with their purchase.
CHEO thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from December 1 to 31, 2017.
