03/23/18 Ottawa – The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation is pleased to announce that $5.8 million was raised to support children’s health programs during LCBO’s December 2017 Giving Back In Our Community fundraising campaign. $600,000 of that total will enable CHEO to replace its aging heart-lung machine which plays such an important role in providing the best possible care to our patients. On average CHEO’s cardiac team will perform two to three open heart surgeries per week. These surgeries could not take place without this vital piece of equipment. Funds will also support ground-breaking research being done at the CHEO Research Institute on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. .
During the 2017 Giving Back In Our Community Campaign, LCBO staff invited customers to add a $2, $5 or $10 donation to their purchase. Donation boxes were also available at LCBO check-out counters.
“LCBO’s Giving Back In Our Community Campaign is once again making a difference in the lives of the children, youth and families that need CHEO,” said Kevin Keohane, President and CEO of the CHEO Foundation. “We want to thank everyone at the LCBO and their customers for believing in and supporting the work being done at our children’s hospital.”
“Behind every dollar that made up this year’s record-breaking Giving Back in Our Community fundraising results, stand our dedicated retail staff and our generous customers. Whether through funding lifesaving equipment and technology, support research, or substance abuse training, we are incredibly proud to help make a difference in the lives of the children and families who rely on the important services provided by CHEO,” said George Soleas, President and CEO, LCBO.
